Littler Adds Experienced Litigator Janell Ahnert in Birmingham

Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has added Janell M. Ahnert as a shareholder in its Birmingham, Ala., office. She joins from Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C.

“Janell has two decades of experience in labor and employment law in Alabama and a strong track record defending employers in state and federal courts,” said Jay D. St. Clair, Birmingham office managing shareholder. “In achieving significant wins for national companies on matters related to the Fair Labor Standards Act, harassment and discrimination, Janell brings impressive trial skills and deep experience counseling employers on managing their workforces and mitigating risk.”

Ahnert counsels and defends companies in a wide range of employment law matters, including harassment, discrimination, wage and hour compliance, and whistleblowing. She has extensive experience in appellate matters – including before the Alabama Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court – and is an experienced mediator. Ahnert provides counsel to clients in a range of industries, including food, banking and energy, and regularly represents clients in the financial services industry, including broker-dealers and banks, in employment matters before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

“I’m excited to join Littler, as the firm’s global platform will allow me to expand my practice and deliver a broader array of services to clients here in Birmingham and beyond,” Ahnert said. “Diversity and inclusion initiatives have long been a passion of mine and I am especially impressed by the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as its innovative approach to programs and policies in this area.”

Ahnert received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her B.A., cum laude, from the University of South Alabama. Active in pro bono efforts and community service activities, she serves as president of the Board of Directors at the Elizabeth Perry Rushton Child Development Center, which provides quality child care for families in downtown Birmingham, and chairs the Business Regional Economic Counsel of the Birmingham Business Alliance to foster economic diversity in the city.
