Akerman Expands Intellectual Property Practice Group with Partner Jeffrey Toney in Atlanta

Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP is pleased to announce that it has expanded its Intellectual Property Practice Group with partner Jeffrey Toney in Atlanta. Toney jones the firm from the Atlanta office of McDermott, Will & Emery.

“Jeff’s experience with companies in the pharmaceutical and healthcare space adds important depth to our national team in these sectors,” said Intellectual Property Practice Group Chair Brian Bianco. “Atlanta is a key market for our clients and his presence provides us additional capabilities in the region.”

In addition to patent and trade secret claims, Jeff tries complex commercial disputes for pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical, and technology companies addressing business and technology issues arising from the design and manufacturing of products, most notably pharmaceutical delivery systems and medical devices.

Toney also counsels clients in connection with regulatory matters, including matters before the FDA, EPA, and USDA, as well as their corresponding international agencies.

Toney excels at resolving complex business divorce – particularly joint-venture disputes – and antitrust matters with multi-tier and international markets. He has 25 years’ experience in international arbitration matters in Europe, the U.S., and Latin America, including proceedings before the International Chamber of Commerce, the Zurich and Stockholm Chambers of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the American Arbitration Association.

Prior to his legal career, Toney worked as a physical chemist. He has published in OTS Journal, the Meso-American Research Reporter, and the American Journal of Botany.
