Jones Day Welcomes Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Partner Irene Vermeeren-Keijzers in Amsterdam

The global law firm Jones Day announced that Irene Vermeeren-Keijzers has joined the Firm’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice in its Amsterdam Office. She will be responsible for Jones Day’s Dutch and European pension, compensation, and benefits practice.

Ms. Vermeeren-Keijzers arrives from Baker & McKenzie in Amsterdam, where she was a partner and head of that firm’s Amsterdam Pensions Industry Group and co-founder of its European Pensions Industry Group. Her practice focuses on advising multinational companies and pension funds on pension law and benefits matters. She has advised on a number of international pension redesign and de-risking projects, counseled on mergers and acquisitions, and represented clients in court during high-profile pension litigation matters. Joining Ms. Vermeeren-Keijzers is Cornelien Broersma, who will be a counsel in the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice.

“Irene’s arrival at Jones Day demonstrates the Firm’s commitment to providing our clients access to the leading benefits and compensation legal talent in Europe and around the world,” said Robert Miller, Co-Leader of Jones Day’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice. “Complicated compensation and benefits issues—relating to compliance with EU law, the Pensions Directive, and various filing requirements—continue to play a critical role as companies adjust to the changes and growth in the European economy. And Irene’s pension de-risking and restructuring experience complements the leading role Jones Day’s pension lawyers play in this area in the United States. We believe she will be a great addition to an already very strong global practice group.”

Ms. Vermeeren-Keijzers’ practice experience includes pension and employment advice to plan sponsors and trustees, pension litigation and meditation, pension fund governance, ethics and compliance matters, liability reduction and management, and pension project management. She has led multiple cross-border compensation benefits projects and several international pension restructurings. Ms. Vermeeren-Keijzers has lectured at Nyenrode University in Breukelen on Ethics & Compliance, and has published frequently in professional journals.

Luc Houben, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Amsterdam Office, stated, “Irene’s work with pension plans—as a plan advisor, project manager, and litigator—makes her a valuable addition to our office here in Amsterdam, and to our clients around the world. As cross-border pension plans and other multijurisdictional benefit packages continue to gain popularity throughout Europe, her role as a trusted advisor to Jones Day clients will continue to grow.”

Ms. Vermeeren-Keijzers holds an LLM from Leiden University and is a ranked attorney by Chambers and Partners (Employment: Pensions — Netherlands). She is admitted to the Dutch Bar Association where she serves as chair of the Pension Advisory Committee. She is a board member of VIIP, a professional network for women in financial (pension) institutions.
