Ogier advises on US$ 725 million launch of African Development Partners II LP fund

Ogier has advised Development Partners International LLP (“DPI”) on the launch of African Development Partners II L.P., a US$ 725 million, Guernsey closed-ended investment fund.

DPI, one of the leading Africa private equity specialists with US$1.1 billion under management, has successfully closed its second fund at US$725 million significantly beating its $500 million target.

The fund invests in a pan-African portfolio of private equity investments in established and growing companies from a variety of different industry sectors with an emphasis on those benefiting from Africa’s growing middle class.

Ogier partner William Simpson and managing associate, Andrew Munro advised on the deal.
William noted that “Ogier has a particular interest and significant experience in establishing and advising on structures for investment in Africa.” He continued, “two of our most senior lawyers grew up there and we have long standing relationships with some of the most significant managers.”

Andrew said “Private equity investment in Africa is an area of significant growth and this is the latest example of a Guernsey structure being used to facilitate investment into the region.”
