White & Case and WilmerHale Both Increased Yearly Revenues

White & Case and WilmerHale have each announced good news: increase in their global revenues. The former made $1.3 billion in 2007, a 7 percent raise  compared to last year’s $1.46 billion.  WilmerHale, on the other hand, had only a 1 percent increase.  The firm made $940 million in 2007 and $955 million in 2008.  Revenue per lawyer increased by 5.8 percent to make a grand total of $1,027 million.

Berwin Leighton Paisner Gobbles Up Most of Another Firm

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has launched a Moscow office with approximately 70 attorneys from Pepeliaev, Goltsblat & Partners (PGP), a top Russian firm. Andrey Goltsblat, previously co-managing partner of PGP, will run the new office, and is also its namesake. The attorney brought 8 partners along with him. It is estimated that Goltsblat (the office), will make a tenth of BLP’s overall revenue.

Former Thacher Hired by Clyde & Co

Ex-Thacher Proffitt partner, John Woods, has accepted a position with firm Clyde & Co.  Woods, litigator and maritime insurance specialist, joins the London office as partner and head of Commercial Recoveries and Dispute Resolution.  The attorney brings along another ex-Thacher associate, and two more will most likely join soon.

Allen & Overy Restructuring Hong Kong Office

Allen & Overy is in the midst of restructuring its Hong Kong arm as a response to the ailing economy as well as to its loss of seven corporate partners who laterally moved to Latham & Watkins in October 08. The firm is left with four partners.  Allen & Overy has assured its staff that it is thinking of them first.  The public, as well as its staff, will have to wait to see the outcome of this restructure.

K&L Gates Opens Office in Frankfurt

K&L Gates has launched a new office in Frankfurt with the lateral hires of Mathias Schulze Steinen and Frank Thomas. Both partners join form Simmons & Simmons. This will mark K&L Gates second office in Germany, the first being in Berlin. The Frankfurt office will focus its practice on corporate, M&A and finance.
