Leading Tax Controversy Partner James N. Mastracchio Joins Eversheds Sutherland’s Washington DC Office

Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP is pleased to announce that James N. Mastracchio has joined the Tax Practice Group as a partner in the Washington DC office, bolstering its tax controversy practice. Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Mastracchio served as a partner and led the Civil Tax Controversy and Criminal Tax practices in the Washington DC office of Dentons.

Mr. Mastracchio regularly represents clients in all phases of federal tax controversies, including examination and administrative appeals. His clients include corporations, financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals. His extensive experience includes debt versus equity, valuation disputes, accounting methods, tax shelters, structured tax products, insurance, informational return penalties, fraud penalties and other substantive tax issues.

In addition to helping clients navigate civil tax controversy, Mr. Mastracchio is widely recognized in matters relating to the US government’s efforts to combat tax fraud and evasion. He has represented banks, trust and securities companies, and global professional firms facing criminal tax investigations. He has assisted more than 450 individuals seeking advice in connection with the IRS Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Programs. He also offers clients critical analysis concerning the resolution of international tax issues, including compliance with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reporting standards, and related intergovernmental agreements.
