Latham & Watkins Adds Two Leading Energy Regulatory Partners

Latham & Watkins LLP is pleased to announce that Patrick Nevins and Eugene Elrod have joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as partners in the firm’s Energy – Oil and Gas Industry Group and the Energy Regulatory and Markets Practice. Both are seasoned energy lawyers, with a focus on natural gas, LNG, and oil matters, particularly oil and gas transportation regulation at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. They represent a variety of companies in the natural gas and oil industries in the US that are involved in midstream, upstream and downstream gas and oil transportation (as both pipeline owners and shippers), as well as LNG development.

Sean Wheeler, Co-chair of the firm’s Global Energy – Oil and Gas Industry Group and Office Managing Partner of the Houston office, said: “Latham’s Oil & Gas Industry team provides practical and creative advice to clients throughout the oil and gas value chain, from the wellhead to transportation to refining and petrochemicals. A critical component of that advice is a team of regulatory lawyers with detailed knowledge and extensive experience before government and regulatory agencies in the key jurisdictions. Pat and Gene strengthen our capabilities and will provide clients operating, financing and investing in the energy space with a valuable resource to navigate and tackle highly complex legal and regulatory issues.”

“Pat and Gene are among an elite group of lawyers viewed as leaders on natural gas, LNG, and oil regulatory matters. In this area—which has the consistent attention of energy stakeholders—their breadth of knowledge and strong technical understanding of the energy markets will be a great asset. We’re thrilled to welcome Pat and Gene to the firm, particularly now, as activity is expected to increase in 2017,” said David Schwartz, Chair of the Energy Regulatory and Markets Practice and Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Energy – Power Industry Group.

Michael Egge, Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, said: “Pat and Gene’s reputations precede them and we are excited to welcome them to the firm. They are great additions to our talented Washington group and complement our global energy platform. They will provide key industry and regulatory insights to benefit clients here and around the globe. ”

“I’m excited to join Latham’s preeminent energy group. The firm has a tremendous stature in the market and is well-known for offering top-notch legal advice, and the kind of creative, informed, business-focused counsel that clients most value. I am excited to be a part of the firm and to join this phenomenal team of lawyers,” said Nevins.

Elrod added: “I have always been impressed with Latham’s strong global platform, highly-regarded energy practice and team-oriented approach. I am pleased to join this talented group of lawyers to serve the full array of their clients’ needs, and I look forward to contributing to their continued success.”

Nevins and Elrod joined Latham from Hogan Lovells and Sidley Austin, respectively. Nevins received his BA in Economics from University of Virginia in 1989, graduating with distinction, and his JD from Georgetown University in 1992, graduating magna cum laude and receiving an Order of the Coif. Elrod received his AB from Dartmouth College in 1971, graduating cum laude, and a JD from Emory University Law School in 1974.
