The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Julia E. McEvoy, former Deputy Associate Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), has rejoined the Firm’s Washington Office as a partner in its Antitrust & Competition Law Practice.
As Deputy Associate Attorney General, Ms. McEvoy was responsible for advising senior DOJ and Obama Administration officials on antitrust matters and was the primary interface between the Antitrust Division and DOJ leadership. She began her legal career in 1995 at Jones Day, where she was admitted to partnership before joining the government in 2012. During her time at the DOJ, she oversaw all types of antitrust matters, including major conduct, criminal, and merger cases.

Ms. McEvoy has represented corporate and individual clients in a broad range of civil and criminal litigation matters involving antitrust issues. She has substantial experience in all phases of complex civil and criminal cases, from prelitigation counseling and investigation through discovery, trial, and appeal. She has led teams conducting internal investigations, responding to government inquiries, negotiating appropriate resolutions with government authorities, and defending individuals and companies in the civil litigation that frequently follows. She has acted as national coordinating counsel for 20 defendants in more than 100 state court cases brought against vitamin manufacturers following international investigations of cartel activity in the industry, arguing complex jurisdictional, procedural, and remedial matters on behalf of those defendants in trial and appellate courts around the country.

Ms. McEvoy earned her J.D. (cum laude) from the University of Notre Dame, and B.A. (with honors) from The College of William & Mary.
