Cozen O’Connor is pleased to welcome prominent business litigator Philip “Randy” Seybold to the firm as a member. Seybold joins Cozen O’Connor from AmLaw 100 firm WilmerHale, where he spent the last 11 years handling some of the nation’s highest profile business litigation matters. Seybold is part of Cozen O’Connor’s Business Litigation practice group and is resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

Throughout his career, Seybold has focused his practice on a wide range of complex litigation and other contested matters, including commercial contract litigation, government contract litigation, False Claims Act litigation, antitrust litigation, construction litigation, intellectual property litigation, and FOIA litigation. He has represented major corporations, small businesses, and individuals in federal and state court proceedings, as well as in arbitrations and mediations. Seybold has also handled class action disputes claiming antitrust and federal and state privacy act violations. He is also experienced in representing corporate clients in government and internal investigations.
Recently, Seybold has represented: a global aerospace company in a government’s contract dispute currently pending in the Court of Federal Claims, a major defense contractor in a contract dispute with a subcontractor currently pending in the Fourth Circuit, and a major multinational banking and financial services corporation in a False Claims Act qui tam action. Other highlights include Seybold’s representation of a Japanese corporation and its United States subsidiary in a class action civil suit claiming price-fixing violations under the Sherman Act, a large government contractor in a multimillion-dollar dispute with the Department of Energy, and a real estate development company in a dispute over possession of skiable terrain in Utah that resulted in his client forming the largest ski area in the United States.
Seybold also is committed to pro bono work and has represented pro bono clients in veterans’ benefits claims and Federal Tort Claims Act claims, as well as criminal and civil matters. Seybold earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude in 2001. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar as well as an editor of the Columbia Business Law Review.
For the past two years, Cozen O’Connor’s Washington, D.C., office has been expanding its various practice offerings and is now considered to have one of the leading business litigation practices in the country. With more than 60 attorneys and other legal professionals, the firm moved its Washington, D.C., office to a new space in 2015 to accommodate this rapid growth. In 2016, Cozen O’Connor’s revenue increased by 10 percent, and that boost is due in part to the especially active Washington, D.C., market.
