Mayer Brown JSM Expands China Corporate Practice with Arrivals of Partner Betty Tam in Shanghai and Consultant Guoqing Li in Beijing

Mayer Brown JSM today announced that Betty Tam will join the firm as a partner in Shanghai. Earlier this month, Guoqing Li joined the firm as a consultant in Beijing.

Betty has more than 12 years of experience advising on cross-border M&As and foreign direct investment matters in the People’s Republic of China. She has extensive experience advising multinationals on issues relating to their investment in Mainland China, including acquisition and divestment of Chinese companies, formation of joint ventures and matters related to their operations, such as corporate governance, employment, foreign exchange and regulatory/compliance matters.

Betty has advised clients in a wide range of industries, including those in the power, water and waste water treatment utilities, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. She speaks fluent French and frequently advises French companies operating in China. Betty will be working closely with her fellow partners in the Corporate practice in Beijing and Hong Kong.

Guoqing Li is qualified in the PRC as well as admitted in the State of New York. Guoqing has more than 10 years of experience advising issuers, underwriters on various IPOs on the Hong Kong and the Shanghai/Shenzhen stock exchanges, and corporate clients on corporate finance matters.

Betty is a partner at an international law firm’s office in Shanghai. She will join Mayer Brown JSM later this year.

Betty received her LLB from the University of London, Master of Philosophy (Linguistics) from the University of Cambridge, and PCLL (Law) from the University of Hong Kong.

Guoqing was a partner at Jingtian & Gongcheng in Beijing prior to joining Mayer Brown JSM.

Guoqing received his LLB from Peking University Law School and LLM from South Methodist University School of Law in Dallas, Texas.
