Troutman Sanders Adds Energy Partner in San Francisco

Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Paul C. Lacourciere has joined the firm’s Energy practice as a partner in the San Francisco office. He practiced previously at K&L Gates.

A substantial portion of Lacourciere’s practice is devoted to work in the solar industry, structuring transactions and advising on compliance with regulations governing the sale of electricity in California.

“Paul is a great addition to the San Francisco office,” said Craig Kline, managing partner of the San Francisco office and head of the firm’s Renewable Energy practice. “His experience helping clients structure deals and secure critical regulatory approvals in this dynamic market, particularly in the area of renewable energy, will be of tremendous benefit.”

Troutman Sanders opened the San Francisco office on April 1. In addition to Lacourciere, the firm announced today that it is adding Dean Morehous and Marcus Hall as partners in the Intellectual Property practice in the San Francisco office.

“Paul’s practice is a perfect fit,” said Kevin Greene, chair of the firm’s Energy & Regulatory department. “His background advising clients on matters before the California Public Utilities Commission, as well as his experience representing utilities on their strategic investments in California will provide enhanced capabilities to our West Coast energy practice.”

Lacourciere’s practice encompasses a wide variety of corporate, transactional and regulatory advice, with a special focus on the energy industry. He counsels clients on state, federal and local energy regulatory matters, structuring transactions within the various regulatory frameworks and advocating for clients before state regulators. Lacourciere represents both major suppliers and purchasers, and has negotiated equipment supply, installation, and service agreements for numerous wind and solar projects throughout the United States and Canada. He has appeared regularly before the CPUC to advocate on policy matters and resolve disputes on behalf of clients.

Lacourciere received his B.S., cum laude, from Humboldt State University, and his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law.

“I am very pleased to be joining Troutman Sanders,” said Lacourciere. “This is an ideal platform for my practice because of the firm’s outstanding reputation serving clients in the energy industry. I look forward to leveraging my experience to continue expanding the firm’s West Coast practice.”
