Insurance Recovery Lawyer Richard DeNatale Joins Jones Day in San Francisco

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Richard DeNatale has joined the Firm as a partner in its Insurance Recovery Practice and will be based in Jones Day’s San Francisco Office. Mr. DeNatale arrives from the San Francisco office of Orrick, where he was a partner in that firm’s Insurance Group and headed the Group’s cyber/data breach practice.

Mr. DeNatale has more than 20 years experience advising policyholders on insurance matters and representing clients in coverage litigation. He has tried more than 15 cases and won jury verdicts on coverage and bad faith claims. Over the past decade, Mr. DeNatale has emerged as a leading practitioner in the burgeoning area of cyber insurance and data breach claims, and has handled insurance claims for some of the largest data breaches in history.

“Richard’s addition to our Insurance Recovery Practice underscores Jones Day’s commitment to vigorously protecting the insurance rights of corporate policyholders,” said Ty Childress, a partner in Jones Day’s Los Angeles Office and leader of the Firm’s Insurance Recovery Practice. “We’re delighted that Richard has joined our team and we know that his experience will be of great benefit to our clients.”

Mr. DeNatale’s experience in cyber insurance and data breach matters includes: data breach counseling, where he is frequently retained to advise clients on insurance claims and strategy in the aftermath of cyberattacks; litigation, where has acted as lead counsel in several major insurance coverage litigation matters involving data privacy claims; and cyber insurance, where he serves as an advisor on cyber insurance policies and regularly counsels clients on policy forms and renewals.

“Richard’s experience on a wide range of insurance claims, settlements, and coverage litigation throughout the country not only provides deeper capabilities for our growing Insurance Recovery Practice, but also adds to Jones Day’s substantial experience defending clients in class actions, product defect cases, and real estate litigation,” said Aaron Agenbroad, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s San Francisco Office. “He is an excellent addition to our team of litigators based in the Bay Area and across all five of our California offices.”

Mr. DeNatale earned his law degree from Harvard Law School and his undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He has been recognized by Chambers USA as one of the nation’s leading insurance lawyers. Mr. DeNatale is a frequent writer and lecturer on insurance issues, including cyber insurance, data breach response, claim settlements, and bad faith.
