Oil and Gas Veteran Mark Burghardt Joins Dorsey in Salt Lake City

International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Mark L. Burghardt has joined the Firm’s Regulatory Affairs Practice Group and Energy and Mining and Natural Resources Industry Groups in Salt Lake City as a Partner.

Mr. Burghardt represents clients in the energy and natural resources industry in transactions, litigation, and administrative hearings. He advises and represents oil and gas companies in M&A, financing and joint ventures, as well as permitting and regulatory issues. He also represents oil and gas clients in civil litigation related to the ownership and operation of oil and gas facilities in federal, state and administrative courts. His clients include upstream, exploration and production stage, oil and gas companies. Aspects of his practice dealing with land rights, access and permitting easily translate to other natural resource industries, particularly mining and renewable energy. He has worked with companies on projects involving federal, state, private and Indian lands.

Mr. Burghardt joins Dorsey from Holland & Hart LLP, where he was a partner in that firm’s environmental and natural resources practice in Salt Lake City. Before joining Holland & Hart in 2011, he was an associate of Holme Roberts & Owen, LLP in Salt Lake City.

He has a B.A. degree from Utah State University and a J.D. degree from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. Mr. Burghardt has been recognized as a Rising Star by Mountain States Super Lawyers (Thomson Reuters) and as one of Utah’s Legal Elite by Utah Business Magazine. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Energy, Natural Resource & Environmental Law Section of the Utah State Bar, is active in the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and is a member of a number of other professional groups focused on the energy and natural resources sector. He writes and speaks extensively on energy and natural resources legal topics.
