Prominent Emerging Companies Lawyer Joins Latham & Watkins in New York

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that David L. Concannon has joined the firm in New York as a partner in the Corporate Department. Concannon has extensive experience advising emerging companies in capital raising transactions, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters, and in representing prominent venture capital firms in financing transactions.

Concannon further enhances the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice Group, which has a significant presence in startup hotbeds across the country, including Boston, New York, Silicon Valley and Southern California. He is among a select few lawyers in New York whose practices focus exclusively on emerging companies, representing both clients as company counsel and venture capital firms as investor counsel. Concannon has advised technology, life science and cleantech clients at various stages of their development, and he is a go-to lawyer for several high-profile venture capital firms and/or their portfolio companies.

“David is widely regarded as one of the top emerging company lawyers in New York, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm,” said Michèle Penzer, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in New York. “David has deep ties to the vibrant startup and investor communities in New York and Silicon Valley, and our partners look forward to collaborating with him to create synergies with the firm’s leading Capital Markets, M&A, Private Equity, FinTech, Intellectual Property Litigation, and Life Sciences practices, among others.”

“The New York startup market is booming and now ranks as the second largest market in the country in terms of dollars invested in emerging companies,” added Kathleen Walsh, a New York partner and Vice Chair of Latham & Watkins’ global Corporate Department. “David is well known in the market and his practice will complement Latham’s capabilities, which are uniquely situated at the intersection of technology transactions, corporate formation and regulation.

“We’ve methodically built a leading Emerging Companies Practice with top-caliber talent in each of the nation’s most active startup and venture hubs — Silicon Valley, Boston/New England, Southern California and New York — and David further strengthens our capabilities,” said Silicon Valley partner Patrick Pohlen, global co-Chair of the Emerging Companies practice of Latham & Watkins.

“David will bolster Latham’s on-the-ground presence in New York at a time when the emerging companies market there is poised for continued strong growth,” added Boston partner John Chory, global co-Chair of the Emerging Companies practice.

Concannon said: “Latham provides a unique combination of high capability for day-to-day services for emerging companies, together with technology-focused M&A and capital markets teams that are unrivaled in strength and depth globally. I look forward to working in Latham’s collegial environment to bring all of the firm’s resources to bear for our clients as they grow and mature.”

Concannon received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1990. He joins Latham from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York. He was previously a partner in the New York office of Andrews & Kurth and also served as general counsel of a Nasdaq-listed technology company.
