Notable Insurance Partner Ellen Dunn Joins Sidley Austin LLP Global Insurance Group

Sidley Austin LLP announced today that Ellen M. Dunn has joined its Insurance practice as a partner in the firm’s New York office. She brings to this role more than 20 years of experience serving clients in the insurance industry in litigation, regulatory investigations and counseling, administrative hearings, and compliance.

“We are thrilled to welcome a practitioner of Ellen’s diverse accomplishments and stature to our talented team of insurance lawyers here in New York,” said Michael J. Schmidtberger, managing partner of the firm’s New York office. “Ellen brings a strong set of complementary skills that will strengthen our resources dedicated to insurance litigation and regulatory investigations and counseling, in tandem with our team’s considerable insurance transactional capabilities.”

Ms. Dunn’s practice representing life and property casualty insurers includes extensive regulatory experience before state insurance departments and in investigations and inquiries by state attorneys general and other officials, often in connection with market conduct and similar compliance issues. Ms. Dunn regularly handles internal investigations, as well as defense of policyholder class and individual actions and insurance insolvencies. In addition, she is experienced with complex contractual disputes and commercial arbitrations. Throughout her career, Ms. Dunn has represented a wide range of insurance clients, including many of the largest insurance companies in the U.S., corporate affiliates of insolvent insurers and a hardship fund for a now-liquidated life insurance company.

“Ellen combines significant litigation and regulatory experience with a deep understanding of the insurance industry, and she will enhance our capabilities to handle challenging investigations, regulatory examinations and class action defense,” said Susan Stone, co-leader of the firm’s global Insurance and Financial Services group. “We look forward to Ellen playing a key role in advising our clients as we continue to expand our scope of litigation services.”
