Mass Torts ‘Star’ Gaudreau Joins Greenberg Traurig’s Pharma, Med Device & Health Care Litigation Practice in NY

Russell (Chip) A. Gaudreau III has joined the award-winning Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP as a shareholder in the firm’s New York City office. He joins from Reed Smith where he had been a partner since 2010, and member of the firm’s Life Sciences and Health Industry practice group.

“Chip is a star in every sense of the word. He will be a great asset to our team as we continue to develop a strong and growing national reputation,” said Lori G. Cohen, chair of the firm’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice and chair of its Trial Practice. “His focus on the management of mass torts makes him a unique find, one that will serve our clients well, as he covers this critical area. We have shared clients and worked alongside Chip for years and are excited to have him on board. The strong relationships he has developed with both our team and his loyal clients will ensure a seamless transition into the firm and our thriving practice.”

Gaudreau regularly counsels Fortune 100 companies engaged in complex commercial and product liability litigation in state and federal courts across the country. He routinely manages teams of lawyers that serve as national, regional, and local counsel to some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. He also designs and successfully implements alternative fee arrangements for these large scale engagements.

Mr. Gaudreau’s recent experience includes serving as national settlement counsel in two separate multidistrict litigations involving thousands of claims related to mesh-based medical device products; providing coordination and management advice to one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies in nationwide toxic tort litigation; serving as settlement counsel to a safety equipment manufacturer in defense of its asbestos, CWP, and silica litigations; and negotiating and implementing a large insurance sales practices class action settlement.

“Lori, her team, and the firm have a reputation that made my decision for the next phase of my career an easy one. I have experienced their skills first-hand, most recently with regard to the C. R. Bard pelvic mesh cases, and I am proud to now be able to offer my clients their know-how as well as to be able to assist in the further development of this competent and dynamic team,” Gaudreau said.

Courtroom View Network (CVN) recognized Greenberg Traurig’s trial win on behalf of C.R. Bard, Inc. as a “Top Defense Verdict of 2016.” In February 2016, a team led by Cohen obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of C. R. Bard, Inc. in Sherrer v. Boston Scientific, et al., Case No. 1216-CV27879, in the 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri. C.R. Bard is a Fortune 500 medical device manufacturer of women’s health products. Greenberg Traurig serves as national coordinating counsel and trial counsel for C.R. Bard in the national and international pelvic mesh litigation.

“Chip’s unique perspective and experience creates a win-win situation for our clients in the region, as well as for an expansion of Chip’s practice on a global scale,” said New York Co-Managing Shareholder Nancy A. Mitchell. “This move is in keeping with our commitment to creating an environment attractive to top-tier practitioners in the strategic areas important to our clients and their goals.”

The Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice is an integral part of the firm’s 600-plus member national Litigation Practice.
