Leading Real Estate Lawyer Andrew Weiner Joins Pillsbury’s New York Office

Pillsbury today announced the arrival of noted real estate lawyer Andrew Weiner, who joins the firm’s New York office as a partner. A veteran presence in the real estate industry, which is one of Pillsbury’s five core sectors, Weiner’s practice is global in scope but focuses significantly on transactions in the New York metropolitan area. He comes to Pillsbury from Dentons.

“Andy is well-known for his skilled practice and his passion for complex real estate transactions, and we’re delighted to welcome him,” said Rachel Horsch, who leads Pillsbury’s Real Estate practice. “We believe Pillsbury’s international platform and longtime sector focus on real estate provide a great fit for Andy’s clients and for the expansion of his practice.”

Weiner’s is joined by counsel Katherine Barger, who also brings a diverse array of experience in commercial and residential real estate deals, including financings and equity transactions. Their arrival comes on the heels of another high-profile addition to the firm’s New York Real Estate team, Paul Shapses, who joined in January.

Weiner represents domestic and foreign clients in equity and debt transactions, including restructurings, the formation of joint ventures and real estate capital market transactions. He advises several clients on a portfolio basis, many for longer than two decades, and his noteworthy projects include the relocation of St. Nicholas Church back onto the World Trade Center site after it was destroyed in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Some of his key engagements include representing a New York-based university in a broad range of large, complex transactions; an international hotel chain in the U.S. and Europe; an investor group in negotiating rights to develop land along the Neva River in St. Petersburg, Russia; inbound Chinese, Singaporean and other Asian investors in U.S. real estate; an investment advisor representing pension funds in real estate finance and capital market transactions; and major corporations in the negotiation of their Manhattan headquarter leases.

“Our focus on the real estate sector is as strong as ever, as evidenced by the continuing growth of our practice and our consistent involvement in market-leading deals,” said David Dekker, Pillsbury’s Firm Chair. “We are delighted to welcome Andy and Katherine and have no doubt they are a great fit for our preeminent team.”

Weiner, who is admitted to practice in New York, serves on the advisory board of New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate. He is a frequent author and speaker on issues involving real estate finance and foreign investment and has served as a member of Law360’s Real Estate Editorial Advisory Board. He was selected by Real Estate Law Experts as the leading real estate lawyer in New York for 2015-2016, in addition to receiving recognition from International Financial Law Review and Best Lawyers in America, among others. He has served as Chair of the Real Estate Practice Group of Lex Mundi, a preeminent worldwide association of independent law firms, and on the Real Estate and Construction Law Committees of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

“Pillsbury’s global footprint and the firm’s range of practice areas that support complex transactions provide a tremendous growth opportunity for my practice and an excellent offering for my clients’ multifaceted needs,” Weiner said. “The firm’s culture and recent expansion, both in New York and internationally, are impressive and make it an excellent fit for me.”
