Gibson Dunn Adds IP Transactions Partner John A. Squires in New York

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce that John A. Squires has joined the firm as a partner in the New York office. Formerly a partner with Perkins Coie, Squires will continue his intellectual property practice, with an emphasis in IP transactions.

“We welcome John to the firm,” said Ken Doran, Chairman & Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn. “John has a well-rounded background covering all aspects of intellectual property, including transactional, licensing, litigation, due diligence, patent-backed lending, and patent asset creation and structuring. He also has significant experience in financial technology and digital transactions, such as e-commerce, virtual currencies and blockchain, mobile payments, data privacy and cyber security. And given his previous in-house roles as chief IP counsel at Goldman Sachs and Honeywell, John is uniquely positioned to provide invaluable insight to our clients seeking strategic advice regarding their IP portfolios and IP-related issues.”

“Patents and other IP have become strategic assets driving many of the largest transactions, especially for our technology clients, and John’s addition will help us meet the increasing need in these critical areas,” said Steven Shoemate, Co-Partner in Charge of the New York office. “With his technical background and experience, he will enhance our IP transactional practice at the senior level and help us meet the demands of clients on matters in which patent rights are of crucial significance.”

“Gibson Dunn has a collegial culture and an incredible platform, particularly in M&A, private equity, finance and other money center capabilities, that will allow me to serve an even broader group of clients, which are among the elite institutions in this country and the world,” said Squires. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues.”
