Eugene Pinover to Join DLA Piper as Chair of New York Real Estate Practice

DLA Piper announced today that Eugene Pinover will join the firm as partner and chair of the New York Real Estate practice. He will also be a member of the firm’s Global Real Estate Steering Committee.

Pinover’s practice focuses on representing domestic and foreign real estate companies and institutional clients, and he has significant experience in acquisitions, sales, joint ventures, restructuring and sophisticated financings and development projects throughout the United States. He has also represented real estate investment trusts (REITs), underwriters and investors in equity offerings and debt securitizations.

“Gene is a highly regarded, well known practitioner who is respected throughout the industry for his deep knowledge and experience with sophisticated real estate transactions,” said John Sullivan, chair of DLA Piper’s US Real Estate practice. “Gene is a great addition to our market-leading global real estate practice, and he will play a key role in implementing our mandate to significantly expand our New York real estate practice in keeping with the breadth and depth of our industry leading global real estate global platform.”

Significant transactions Pinover has participated in include Washington Prime Group Inc. in its $4.3 billion acquisition of Glimcher Realty Trust; Paramount Group, Inc. in the largest REIT initial public offering in US history; Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. in connection with real estate aspects of its acquisition by Health Care REIT, Inc.; and a joint venture between The Mills Corporation and the General Motors Pension Trust for a portfolio of regional malls. He has also been involved in acquisition of more than 20 million square feet of New York City office buildings and over 20 million square feet of regional mall and shopping center transactions. He serves on the Board of VEREIT (NYSE:VER) and numerous charitable organizations, and he is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.

Pinover joins DLA Piper from Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where he was the chair of the firm’s Real Estate department for over 20 years. He received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Dartmouth College and his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law.
