Angelo Ciavarella Joins Katten as Partner in New York

Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP announced today that Angelo Ciavarella has joined the firm’s Tax Planning practice as a partner in its New York office. Ciavarella focuses his practice on structuring domestic and cross-border corporate and private equity transactions, including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, restructurings, tax-free reorganizations, leveraged buyouts and other major corporate transactions, as well as lending and other financing transactions.

“Angelo is an experienced tax adviser who will supplement our ongoing representation of domestic and foreign companies and businesses in connection with merger and acquisitions, investment and lending transactions,” said Saul E. Rudo, national head of Katten’s Tax Planning practice. “His experience and broad skill set will be a valuable asset in doing what our clients say we do best—handling complex structuring issues in a cost-efficient manner.”

Ciavarella provides counsel to partnerships, limited liability companies and investment vehicles, including private equity funds and hedge funds and their general partners, managers and advisors. He also represents clients in connection with capital market transactions and financial products, including foreign and domestic stock and securities offerings, forward contracts, options, swaps, and other derivative contracts.

“Angelo’s significant experience working with middle market private equity funds will add value to our Private Equity practice and provide our clients with yet another strong tax attorney to work on their deals,” said Kimberly T. Smith, co-chair of Katten’s nationwide Private Equity practice.

Ciavarella, who was formerly a partner at Reed Smith, has also represented clients in connection with real estate transactions, including advising real estate developers, domestic and foreign real estate investors, real estate investment funds and REITS.

Katten’s Tax Planning group, with lawyers located in the United States and London, provides advice on a wide range of corporate and partnership transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, investments, debt and equity raises, fund formation, real estate development and joint venture transactions, and financings. The team coordinates tax, corporate and legal planning for companies, banks, investment funds, private equity firms and families in the United States, Europe and throughout the world.
