Paul Hastings Continues Building Leveraged Finance Strength with Addition of High-Profile Finance Partner in New York

Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that John Cobb has joined the firm’s Leveraged Finance practice as a partner in the New York office. Mr. Cobb joins from Weil, where he was a partner with the Capital Markets and Banking & Finance practices.

“During the past two years, we have added several well-regarded leveraged finance partners to our practice, and in a very short time, become one of the strongest players in the leveraged finance and broader finance space,” said William Schwitter, chair of the Leverage Finance practice. “John’s arrival is another important addition that builds on this strength,” he added.

“John’s finance and capital markets experience is highly sought after by several leading banks and other financial services firms, and positions Paul Hastings to continue our recent growth in the representation of parties in complex acquisition financings in an intensely competitive marketplace,” said Barry Brooks, chair of the New York office. “His addition is not only important to our Leverage Finance and related Finance practices, but also represents another strategic investment in the sophistication, breadth of practice and size of our New York office,” he added.

Mr. Cobb’s practice focuses on leveraged loan and capital markets transactions. He has extensive experience representing banks, investors, and mezzanine funds, as well as issuers, in connection with a broad range of banking and securities transactions, including first and second lien credit facilities, bridge loan facilities, high-yield and investment grade debt offerings, mezzanine financings, liability management transactions, and restructurings and reorganizations. He has also represented both public and private companies in connection with general corporate and securities law matters.

Paul Hastings’ Leveraged Finance and other Finance practices have been growing rapidly and have achieved a prominent position in representing participants in connection with the most significant and sophisticated transactions in the market. In Thomson Reuters Loan Pricing Corporation’s 2013 League Table results, Paul Hastings was ranked third in “U.S. Lender Law Firm M&A,” and fourth in “U.S. Overall Law Firm M&A,” capturing 8% and 5% of market share, respectively.
