Thompson Hine New York Brings on Third Litigation Partner in Three Months

Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to announce that Tammy Bieber, a securities litigator, has joined its New York office as a partner in the Business Litigation practice, which the firm has identified as a growth area for the office. She previously was a partner at Shearman & Sterling LLP and spent time at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where she served as a senior legal adviser to the Chief Accountant. Bieber is the third partner to join the Business Litigation practice in New York in recent months; the firm recently hired Michael W. Jahnke, who focuses on antitrust litigation, and Maranda Fritz, who focuses on white-collar criminal matters.

Bieber has successfully represented auditors, issuers and investment funds in shareholder litigation and government and internal investigations. She has tried multiple cases to verdict. Most recently, she handled several high-profile Madoff-related matters, including representing Sterling Stamos Capital Management LP, a registered investment adviser, in connection with the Picard v. Katz clawback action. During her tenure at the SEC, Bieber consulted on various policy issues affecting the audit and accounting professions and participated in rulemaking, enforcement proceedings, congressional testimony and various other activities. She is currently an advisory committee member of the Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Center on Corporate Law Governance at Cardozo Law School in New York.

“The addition of Tammy to our New York office increases the depth of our litigation practice here and further enhances the firm’s national securities bench,” said Katherine D. Brandt, partner-in-charge of the firm’s New York office. “With intensified scrutiny by the SEC, regulatory enforcement has increased. Securities litigation is a growing practice area for our firm, and we have been looking to add to our expertise in this area. We are truly excited to have Tammy at the firm and resident in the New York office.”

“I was attracted to the firm’s strong securities and white-collar practices,” said Bieber. “The caliber of lawyers in the office is quite impressive and the range of expertise within those practice areas will greatly benefit my clients.”

Bieber is the latest to join the expanding New York office, which recently hired several top-tier lateral partners. In addition to Fritz and Jahnke, the office recently welcomed Jonathan B. RossKaren M. KozlowskiWilliam H. Schrag and Peter J. Gennuso, who joined the Commercial & Public Finance, Real Estate, Business Restructuring, Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy and Corporate Transactions & Securities practices, respectively.

The firm’s litigation practice has also recently grown, having added high-profile lateral partners Ugo A. Colella in Washington, D.C. and John L. Watkins in Atlanta.
