K&L Gates Strengthens Health Care Practice with Research Triangle Park Partner, Associate Additions

Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Ted Lotchin as a health care partner in its Research Triangle Park office. Lotchin joins K&L Gates from the Washington, D.C., office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC.

Lotchin advises health care clients, including hospitals and academic medical centers, physicians, and pharmaceutical and medical device companies, on regulatory and transactional matters, as well as on False Claims Act litigation. He also regularly represents health care providers on Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse issues, the Stark law, and the U.S. Anti-Kickback Statute, and on the development and implementation of corporate compliance programs.

Serving in leadership positions with the American Health Lawyers Association’s Teaching Hospitals and Academic Medical Centers practice group, the Physicians Issues Interest Group of the ABA Health Law Section, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys, Lotchin also assists for-profit and not-for-profit health systems on various issues, including managing subpoenas from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Justice.

“We are very excited that Ted has joined our health law practice,” said Mary Beth F. Johnston, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Research Triangle Park office and co-leader of the firm’s health care practice group. “He brings extraordinary depth on internal investigations, FCA litigation, and all things compliance.”

Lawyers in K&L Gates’ health care practice counsel clients — including major academic medical centers, tertiary care hospitals and established community and regional health care providers, and national health care businesses — on a variety of state and federal regulatory and compliance issues affecting operations, expansions, and reorganizations. Lotchin is one of several additions to the Research Triangle Park health care practice this summer, with the office recently having welcomed associates Varsha Gadani, Joe Leahy, and Hilary Bowman, who also bring significant health law capabilities.
