Manatt Adds Experienced Patent Litigator in Los Angeles

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, today announced that Christopher Broderick has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the intellectual property practice. Broderick joins Manatt from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP, where he was an equity partner.

With twenty years of litigation experience, Broderick focuses his practice on patent, trademark, unfair competition, and trade secret actions. Although his clients span a range of industries and technologies, he frequently represents Japan’s top consumer electronics companies in highly technical intellectual property matters, defending them in IP disputes and helping them protect, manage and monetize their IP assets.

“Chris is a highly regarded registered patent attorney and litigator who consistently, and successfully, leads some of the most technically challenging IP disputes,” said Yasser El-Gamal, co-chair of the firm’s intellectual property practice. “His impressive background will be an invaluable asset to any company in need of IP advice, and particularly for those with complex technical issues. We’re excited to welcome Chris to the firm.”

Broderick has substantial experience representing international clients in a range of patent and trademark matters, including handling international arbitrations, multi-district litigations, International Trade Commission investigations, international trademark portfolios and post-grant proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. At Manatt, Broderick will continue to represent domestic and international clients in all of these areas.

In addition to his legal background, Broderick has significant engineering experience, having worked for over ten years as an engineering analyst on satellites, airplanes and space systems at Hughes Electronics (now Raytheon and Boeing Satellite Systems) and Northrop Grumman Corporation.

“What drew me most to Manatt was its sophisticated understanding of the multidimensional needs of clients with IP issues,” said Broderick. “Successful IP protection involves numerous and varied business and legal considerations, industry-specific knowledge, and often gives rise to cross-border implications. Manatt’s focus on building long term partnerships founded on trust with its clients together with its multi-disciplined practices is very attractive. I look forward to working with such an impressive team.”
