Intellectual Property and Business Litigation Attorney Caroline Mankey Joins Sedgwick

Sedgwick announced the addition of Caroline H. Mankey as a partner in its Los Angeles, California office. Joining from Cypress, LLP, Mankey was formerly a partner at Glaser, Weil, Fink, Jacobs, Howard & Shapiro, LLP. She specializes in commercial matters, with concentration in intellectual property litigation and transactions in the entertainment and technology sectors, and complex business disputes involving licensing and contract issues, unfair competition, business interference, trade secrets, and privacy, publicity and media rights. She also handles business disputes involving sexual harassment and employment issues.

“Caroline is an outstanding fit for our practice,” said Curtis Parvin, chair of Sedgwick’s Commercial Division. “She brings significant additional depth to our intellectual property and general business litigation groups, and she will be a great asset to our other partners. Caroline is known for her innovation and creativity in resolving high-stakes disputes, and Sedgwick clients can trust her to understand their needs and protect their interests passionately, strategically and efficiently.”

Mankey has extensive trial and arbitration experience and has represented prominent clients in the entertainment and technology industries in disputes involving copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, defamation, licensing and other contract rights, rights of publicity and partnership disputes. Her successes include a jury verdict of more than $1 million on behalf of the founder of a renowned rock band in a jury trial for misappropriation of publicity rights, successful defense of a multinational mass media corporation in a copyright infringement suit, rulings protecting the estate of a well-known comedian/actor, and other high-profile matters.

“Joining Sedgwick allows me to offer my existing and future clients the tremendous value of an international firm with a wide range of expertise, excellent lawyers and a stellar reputation, and to grow my practice exponentially while continuing to focus on copyright, trademark, right of publicity, privacy, media and entertainment issues, as well as commercial business litigation,” said Mankey. “In addition to the high quality of the practice at Sedgwick, the collegiality and diversity of the firm make it an ideal environment in which I can flourish professionally and personally.”

Ms. Mankey was named a “Rising Star” in September 2005 and a “Super Lawyer” in 2011–2015 by Southern California Super Lawyers, and was named as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers of Southern California by Super Lawyers in 2014.

Since 2010, Mankey has served as an Attorney Settlement Officer for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She also serves on the boards of directors of two nonprofit organizations, The Industry and Reading Opens Minds, and is a member of Women In Film and the Women Who Lead Board of the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel.

Mankey received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1996 and her B.A. in Germanic Languages, cum laude, from UCLA in 1990.
