Norton Rose Fulbright Strengthens Employment and Labor Practice in LA

Norton Rose Fulbright’s employment and labor team is expanding its roster with the addition of three lawyers in the Los Angeles office.

Arthur Silbergeld and John Yslas join Norton Rose Fulbright’s US member firm as partners, accompanied by senior associate Jennifer Awrey. Both Silbergeld and Awrey come from Dickstein Shapiro, while Yslas practiced at Foley & Lardner.

Linda Addison, US managing partner, Norton Rose Fulbright, said:

“Our employment and labor practice serves a diverse client base in key industries, including life sciences and healthcare, energy andtransportation. Our practice has earned national recognition for its work in employment litigation and will be strengthened by these new additions. We are delighted to have this talented group of lawyers join our team.”

Silbergeld’s representation of employers covers a broad spectrum of employment law, including defending companies in federal and state courts in class action and individual litigation, encompassing wage and hour, termination, discrimination and harassment claims. He also engages in preventive counseling involving executive contracts, reductions in force, whistleblower claims and traditional labor relations matters.

Yslas represents employers in a wide range of actions with a focus on wage and hour class actions. He also routinely handles single-plaintiff employment cases and has extensive trial experience. In addition, Yslas is actively involved in the community, serving on the boards of directors of diversity organizations and previously serving on important commissions for the City of Los Angeles.

Awrey focuses her practice on employment law matters, including discrimination, wage and hour issues, disability and harassment claims.

Peter Mason, partner-in-charge of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Los Angeles office, commented:

“Arthur, John and Jennifer offer more than 50 years of combined experience in employment law defense and counseling that will greatly benefit our clients. Bolstering this practice has been a priority for our Los Angeles office, and we have assembled a team with a track record of success in this market that will complement our 300 employment lawyers worldwide.

“Attracting such quality lawyers to Norton Rose Fulbright is further evidence of its appeal following our global combination. We believe that many additional top-level talent will see the benefit of joining us in the months and years ahead.”

Silbergeld, who has defended major and mid-size companies in more than 300 litigations and first-chaired over 100 arbitrations and federal and state court bench and jury trials, said:

“Norton Rose Fulbright has a strong employment and labor practice across the United States, and it will be energizing to work alongside this impressive team of lawyers. Our global platform will enable me to expand my practice, attract younger associates and best serve our clients.”

Yslas, who served as national vice chair and Western practice chair of his previous firm’s employment and labor practice, said:

“I am excited to join a practice group with a national reputation and a truly global reach. As a part of Norton Rose Fulbright, I see a great opportunity to help our clients worldwide. I look forward to contributing to this future success.”

Silbergeld received his JD from Temple University, his Master’s from the University of Pennsylvania and his BA from the University of Michigan. Yslas received his JD from University of California-Los Angeles and his BA from the University of California-Santa Barbara. Awrey earned a JD and an LLM from Cornell University and her BA from the University of Washington.

Silbergeld, Yslas and Awrey are all admitted to practice in California.
