Securities litigator Helen Kim joins Thompson Coburn’s Los Angeles office

Thompson Coburn is pleased to announce that Helen B. Kim has joined the firm as a partner. Kim will join the Business Litigation group and is the first addition to the firm’s new office in Los Angeles. She previously served as an attorney at Theodora Oringher PC, and Katten Muchin Rosenman.

Named one of the top woman litigators in California by The Daily Journal (Los Angeles), Kim represents public and private companies, their directors, officers and principal shareholders before the courts and in arbitration proceedings.

She has successfully defended clients in multiple shareholder derivative suits, nationwide securities class actions, and related insurance coverage litigation, and guided companies through regulatory investigations. Her clients have included global financial services firms, health care executives, media companies, and major manufacturers, among others.

Kim is the chair of the Los Angeles chapter of the Korean American Coalition, a nonprofit that advocates for civic and civil rights. She is a past president of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and a former assistant vice president of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Kim is co-chair of the Class Action Subcommittee of the Securities Litigation Committee for the ABA’s Section of Litigation. She also serves on the ABA’s Standing Committee for Federal Judicial Improvements.

Kim received her J.D. from Yale Law School, where she was a note editor of the Yale Law Journal, and was awarded her A.B., cum laude, from Harvard-Radcliffe College. She holds an M.M. from The Juilliard School in classical piano performance.
