Bird & Bird Strengthens its Global Employment Practice With the Appointment of Pattie Walsh

Bird & Bird is delighted to announce the appointment of Pattie Walsh as a partner in our global Employment Practice, in a move that significantly strengthens Bird & Bird’s employment capability.

Pattie was formerly the Head of Employment for Asia Pacific at DLA Piper, and is fully qualified to practice in Hong Kong, New South Wales (Australia), England and Wales.

She has been consistently named as one of the three leading employment lawyers in Asia. The Chambers Confidential Report of 2014 testifies to Pattie’s ongoing recognition by clients, and the market generally, as one of the few leading employment partners in Asia.

Pattie is one of only a very few non-Chinese lawyers to have fully developed detailed knowledge of local PRC employment law. She has a broad client base, with a focus on the financial services sector.

Her appointment will significantly strengthen Bird & Bird’s employment capabilities in the Asia Pacific region– a burgeoning area of development for the firm, allowing the group to have a global outlook. Her joining follows the recent arrival of Asia-Pacific Employment partners Ying Wang (Shanghai), Seow Hui Goh (Singapore) and Lesley Maclou (Sydney).

Pattie is also a mentor, regular contributor to publications and books, and is a major supporter of pro-bono and community projects.

Susan de Silva, head of the Asia Pacific Employment group, said, “Pattie’s track record of building and leading her team, her reputation amongst peers and clients, plus her regional/global focus represents a unique opportunity for us to take the Bird & Bird Asia Pacific Employment practice to the next level.”

Ian Hunter, Co-Head of the International Employment group, said, “Pattie joining us is a testament to the development of the Bird & Bird brand in the Asia Pacific region, and in particular the Employment group.”

Pattie added, “I am thrilled to be joining the Bird & Bird team. I look forward to building links between the Asia Pacific Employment group and wider International Employment group.”
