Greenberg Traurig Expands California Tax Practice with Former Members of Cahill Davis & O’Neall

Greenberg Traurig, LLP has expanded its Tax Practice in California with the addition of property tax shareholders C. Stephen Davis and Cris O’Neall to the Orange County office.

The incoming tax attorneys join Greenberg Traurig from Cahill, Davis & O’Neall, LLP, a specialized property tax firm that served clients in a wide array of state and local taxation matters in connection with nearly every segment of the real estate market.

“We are excited that these highly skilled attorneys are joining Greenberg Traurig,” said Matthew Gorson, co-chairman of the firm. “Our California Tax Practice will be further strengthened with this team of esteemed tax lawyers who can serve our clients on issues ranging from tax assessment litigation, to refund controversies.”

“Stephen and Cris are highly regarded professionals with extensive experience in a very specialized and significant area of tax law,” said Bruce Fischer, Orange County co-managing shareholder and chair of the West Coast Real Estate Practice. “They will be a terrific complement to our current real estate services and a welcome addition to the Orange County office.”

“We are excited at adding further depth to our California and national tax practice with our new colleagues,” said Martin Kalb, co-chair of the firm’s Global Tax Group. “With their wide-range of experience in tax law, we believe this is a perfect match to augment Greenberg Traurig’s already existing platform.”

Davis actively litigates property tax controversies before local assessment appeals boards, superior courts, courts of appeal, and the California Supreme Court. He is a frequent speaker on property tax issues, and has written for numerous tax-related publications. Davis serves as an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School teaching California property tax.

“We are very proud of the work we have done over the past 15 years, but are eager to join forces with Greenberg Traurig. We look forward to providing our clients with a uniquely diverse range of services and a truly full-service experience,” said Davis.

O’Neall’s practice includes ad valorem property tax, assessment counseling, and litigation. He counsels clients in a range of industries, including energy, oil, hospitality, and healthcare and represents California taxpayers in proceedings before assessment appeals boards and other forums. O’Neall actively serves on the CalTax Board of Directors.

“I am pleased to be bringing my years of tax law experience to a firm with the global reach and vast network of Greenberg Traurig,” said O’Neall.
