Oil and Gas Partner Cody Carper Joins Willkie’s Energy Practice

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP today announced that oil and
gas partner Cody Carper has joined the firm’s Houston office. Mr. Carper was formerly a
partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
“Cody is the ‘real thing’ – a true oil and gas pro who rolls up his sleeves to tackle the critical
aspects of upstream A&D transactions,” said Bruce Herzog, Willkie’s partner in charge of the
Houston office. “His command of title issues, operating level agreements, the compliance
landscape and the purchase and sale process makes him a tremendous resource for our energy
practice.”
Mr. Carper advises clients on complex transactions across the energy spectrum, including the
formation of joint ventures, drilling partnerships and other joint development arrangements, and
the acquisition and divestiture of upstream and midstream oil and gas assets and companies. He
has extensive experience representing private equity funds, their portfolio companies and
strategics on energy transactions.
“We are thrilled to have Cody on board. He is a superb oil and gas attorney with excellent
experience, and his strong ties with a number of private equity firms and oil and gas companies will be a great asset in helping us to broaden our relationships with these and other corporate
clients,” said Michael De Voe Piazza, Co-Chair of Willkie’s Energy Practice.
“Willkie’s commitment to the energy practice, as evidenced by its successful recruitment of
leading practitioners and focus on delivering the highest quality service to leading energy
funds, lending institutions and E&P companies, fits perfectly with my interest in developing
long-term relationships both with firm clients and industry peers in the oil and gas sector,”
said Mr. Carper.
Mr. Carper recently worked closely with Willkie attorneys in the successful divestiture by
Samson Resources Corporation of six packages of oil and gas assets through the chapter 11
bankruptcy process. He has also recently represented several private equity clients in the
negotiation of complex drilling partnerships and joint development agreements.
