King & Spalding Expands Corporate Practice in Houston

King & Spalding announced today that Jeffery K. Malonson has joined the firm’s corporate and energy teams as a partner in its Houston office.

“Over the past two decades, King & Spalding has made its Houston office an international platform for its energy, disputes, IP and transactional practices, as well as a national platform for its healthcare and litigation work,” said Tracie Renfroe, co-head of the firm’s energy practice and the Houston office managing partner. “Jeff’s long track record of representing investment banks in Houston, his master limited partnerships (MLP) expertise, and his many clients in the energy sector make him a strategic fit for the firm. We are excited to work with him.”

Malonson has an extensive corporate practice, focusing on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and governance matters. His capital markets practice includes representing public and private companies, MLPs, investment banking firms, and private equity firms in initial public offerings (IPOs), and other public offerings and private placements of equity and debt. Malonson also advises corporations and partnerships concerning merger and acquisition transactions, and private equity firms with strategic investments and divestitures in public and private companies and partnerships. In addition to his transactional practice, Malonson advises public company clients regarding compliance with periodic reporting, proxy solicitation, and corporate governance matters.

“King & Spalding is an exceptional firm, with the expertise and depth in the energy sector to handle virtually any complex corporate transaction,” said Malonson. “I am delighted to join the firm, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues to expand our energy capital markets practice, and provide additional depth and expertise in our mergers and acquisitions and private equity practices.”

Malonson was previously a partner at Vinson & Elkins for more than eight years. Malonson earned his B.B.A. from Texas Christian University and his J.D. cum laude from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. After graduating from law school, Malonson clerked for the Hon. Richard A. Schell, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division.

With over 100 lawyers in Texas and over 80 in Houston, King & Spalding’s Houston office is among the largest offices for firms headquartered outside Texas. The firm’s Houston office has developed a leading energy practice, being named one of Law360’s energy practice groups of year for the last two years.
