Anna Rotman Joins Houston Office of Kirkland & Ellis to Launch Office’s Litigation Practice Group

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Anna Rotman has joined the Firm, where she will help build and grow the Houston office’s Litigation Practice Group.

“Kirkland has had significant litigation matters in Houston for many years, but now has litigators on the ground to build the practice and enhance service to clients in Texas,” said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee. “Anna has the perfect combination of experience and ambition to drive that effort.”

Ms. Rotman represents plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal court, counseling clients on bet-the-company matters. She has significant trial experience in business disputes and antitrust litigation for clients that span global industries, with a particular focus on energy, technology, and aviation. She joined Kirkland from Houston litigation boutique firm Yetter Coleman LLP, where she was a partner.

“Anna is a dynamic lawyer with the energy, vision and skills to lead our civil litigation practice in Houston — with the depth and resources of Kirkland’s national litigation practice behind her,” said Mark Filip, a partner in Kirkland’s Litigation Practice Group and member of the Firm’s Global Management Executive Committee.

Ms. Rotman, along with Brigham Cannon, who relocated from the Washington, D.C., office, and Patrick King, are the Firm’s first three litigation partners in Houston. Mr. Cannon focuses on white collar and enforcement defense, including FCPA matters in both the investigatory and transactional settings, and Mr. King will be joining Ms. Rotman on civil litigation matters. These litigation partners will be supported by a strong team of litigation associates.

“Since opening the Houston office in April 2014, we have established Kirkland as a major player in Texas by handling important matters for major clients through the Firm’s collegial and collaborative approach across offices and practice groups, while at the same time building our presence in the local market,” said Andrew Calder, a corporate partner in Kirkland’s Houston office and a member of the Firm’s Global Management Executive Committee. “The Firm operates as one collaborative team, and Anna’s strong trial experience and deep understanding of both the local market and the legal needs of global companies will make her a valued partner, adding to the substantial resources already committed to Texas by our market-leading national litigation brand.”

“I am delighted to be joining the Kirkland platform at a critical moment in its growth trajectory in Houston,” Ms. Rotman said. “Along with my outstanding new colleagues, I fully expect to develop Kirkland in Houston as a go-to advisor for bet-the-company litigation in Texas.”

Prior to working in private practice, Ms. Rotman was a law clerk to Judge Marvin Garbis of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. She worked for several years in the technology industry before law school. She is active within the legal community and serves on the board of the Federal Bar Association, as a trustee for the Association of Women Attorneys of Houston Foundation and as president of the Harvard Law School Alumni Association of Houston.

She holds a law degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University. She also speaks Spanish and French fluently. She is consistently recognized as a “Texas Super Lawyer” in Business Litigation by Thomson Reuters; a “Texas Rising Star” by Texas Monthly Magazine; and a “Houston Top Lawyer” in Commercial Litigation by H Texas Magazine.
