Ashurst Strengthens Greater China Practice With Major Corporate Hire

International law firm Ashurst today announces the appointment of PH Chik as a partner in its corporate practice, based in Hong Kong.

PH Chik was a partner in Linklaters’ Beijing office from 2012. Prior to that, he was a partner in Baker McKenzie’s Beijing office from 2007 to 2012. PH specialises in Hong Kong listing work, including Hong Kong IPOs, secondary offerings and post-listing compliance, with a particular focus on Chinese state-owned enterprises. PH has over 20 years of experience, a market-leading reputation, and is ranked as a leading lawyer for Hong Kong capital markets by IFLR1000.

Commenting on PH’s appointment, Nigel Pridmore, Ashurst’s regional head for Asia, said:

“PH’s appointment represents a step-change for our Greater China Practice. China Inc. continues to represent an extremely attractive market segment for Greater China work. PH’s substantial experience with SOEs, together with our existing client relationships and broad product expertise in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, will combine to enable us to unlock the vast market opportunities in this segment for our market-leading capital markets, M&A and finance practices.”

US partner Stuart Rubin, Ashurst’s practice head for corporate transactions in Asia, added:

“Hong Kong ECM has long been, and will continue to be, an engine for the growth of our broader corporate practice. PH’s hire will complement our existing investment bank relationships to enable us to compete for Hong Kong’s premier IPOs.”

PH commented:

“I am delighted to be joining the Ashurst team and looking forward to bringing my experience in Hong Kong listing work to help the firm’s clients achieve their objectives.”

In addition to the appointment of PH, Ashurst’s APAC corporate practice has recently been bolstered by the hires of two M&A specialists including Melbourne partners John Brewster, who is joining from Clayton Utz, and Shane Kyriakou, who joined from Herbert Smith Freehills.
