K&L Gates Continues Growth of Labor and Employment Practice with Portland Partner Addition

Global law firm K&L Gates LLP continues to expand its Labor, Employment and Workplace Safety practice area with the arrival of Portland partner Román D. Hernández. Hernández joins K&L Gates from Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.

With a focus on employment law, labor law, and business litigation, Hernández represents employers in the defense of such areas as discrimination, unfair labor practices, harassment, and wage abuse allegations, and on international matters involving multinational contracts. He also acts as lead counsel in class action disputes at the state and federal level, in addition to arguing before the National Labor Relations Board.

A former National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the HNBA Legal Education Fund as well as past president of the Board of Directors of the Portland Hispanic Chamber, Hernández’s extensive service and dedication to his community have earned him numerous awards and acknowledgments. These have included the Government of Mexico’s prestigious Ohtli Award – the highest honor bestowed upon a non-Mexican citizen – given to Hernández in recognition of his commitment to the Mexican and Hispanic community, and a ranking among Oregon Business magazine’s “Fifty Great Leaders.” He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Portland Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

“Román adds significant capability to our firm in high-stakes employment litigation and counseling,” said Brendan R. McDonnell, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Portland office. “Our firm’s global platform resonates with his national and multinational clients, and our clients will benefit from both his deep experience as well as his leadership in the legal community.”

Hernández is the second new partner to join K&L Gates’ Labor, Employment and Workplace Safety practice area this month, following the earlier arrival of New York partner Donald Dowling. The two are now among the more than 200 lawyers throughout K&L Gates’ global platform involved in the firm’s Global Employer Solutions, a comprehensive cross-disciplinary team of lawyers helping entities with operations and staff across numerous countries and wide-ranging jurisdictions meet the challenges of their global business needs and comply with an array of local laws and regulations.
