Christopher Zelyas Joins Dentons’ Accomplished Commercial Litigation Team in Edmonton

Dentons is pleased to announce that Christopher Zelyas has joined the Firm as a partner in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. Chris maintains a broad commercial litigation practice, in which he addresses conflicts at all levels of his clients’ businesses. He has particular expertise in advancing his clients’ intellectual property portfolios through patent and trademark litigation, and in handling claims involving misappropriation of confidential information and trade secrets.

Based in Edmonton, Chris’ practice also focuses on employment disputes, contractual and construction litigation, and intra-business disputes amongst shareholders and partners. He has had repeated success in pursuing and defending against applications for immediate injunctive relief in intellectual property and commercial litigation matters.

“We are pleased to welcome Chris as the newest member of our team,” said Carman McNary, Managing Partner of Dentons’ Edmonton office. “He brings with him an impressive level of knowledge and experience in commercial litigation and intellectual properly matters that will be of great benefit to Firm’s clients.”

Since graduating from Harvard Law School in 2006, Chris has advocated for his clients at all levels of the Alberta and Federal Courts, and in 2015, served as lead counsel on the Reckitt Benckiser v. Jamieson Laboratories matter, in which he successfully obtained a rare pre-trial order forcing the defendant to cease use of a brand name pending trial, which was upheld by the Federal Court of Appeal.

“I am honoured to be joining the world’s largest law firm,” said Chris. “With its innovative approach and global reach, I will be able to provide my clients with the exceptional service they deserve in advancing their goals and protecting their rights, at home in Edmonton, across Canada, and everywhere else they do business.”
