Intellectual Property Attorney Scott M. Alter Joins Lathrop & Gage’s Denver Office

Lathrop & Gage welcomes Scott M. Alter as a partner in its Intellectual Property practice in the firm’s Denver office.

Alter joins the firm from Faegre Baker Daniels, where he focused his practice on intellectual property matters concerning software, electronics, Internet, telecommunications and semiconductor technologies. He has extensive experience developing and implementing IP strategies, evaluating patentability of new technologies and managing complex patent prosecution.

“Scott brings a wealth of experience to our intellectual property practice, with extensive knowledge surrounding intellectual property and technology,” said Phillip Lorenzo, Partner in Charge of the Denver office. “He joins the ranks of our many attorneys that bring firsthand, in-depth insight in the science and technology fields to their practice, allowing us to provide the best possible counsel to our clients.”

Alter is currently listed among the World’s Leading Patent Practitioners by International Asset Management magazine and is recognized for IP in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Alter obtained his juris doctor from George Washington University Law School and received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Emory University. He is currently a Council Member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Intellectual Property.

With the addition of Alter, the Lathrop & Gage IP practice group consists of 30 professionals in the Denver and Boulder offices. The team includes 23 attorneys and seven patent agents and technical specialists with a wide range of advanced degrees in scientific and technical fields, as well as direct experience in diverse industries.
