Polsinelli Enhances Intellectual Property Litigation Capabilities

Polsinelli welcomes new shareholders Michael D. Pegues and Jason A. Wietjes to its Dallas office to bolster the firm’s growing national Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation Group. Drawing upon more than 20 years of extensive experience in complex IP disputes, Pegues focuses on patent litigation while Wietjes works with both established and start-up tech firms to strategically defend, enforce and monetize their intellectual property.

“These two new IP attorneys are great additions to our team,” said Dallas Managing Partner Jon Henderson. “Both Michael and Jason have represented a broad range of companies in federal courts across the United States and will be great advocates on behalf of our clients as we continue to expand resources to meet their needs.”

Polsinelli’s national Intellectual Property Practice is a cross-functional group of attorneys combining patent law knowledge with proven trial and litigation experience. In 2014, Corporate Counsel released its Patent Litigation Survey list, ranking Polsinelli at No. 40 among the Top 50 firms in the number of patent lawsuits handled in U.S. federal courts during 2013. The firm, with a geographic footprint across 20 cities, was recently recognized by The American Lawyer Magazine as the fastest growing U.S. law firm for the past six years.

“Client demands dictated a change of platforms for my practice. Polsinelli’s Midwestern roots coupled with its reasonable rate structure made the firm desirable to me and my clients. I am looking forward to working within the Polsinelli culture and using its vast resources and broad technical knowledge to meet our clients’ needs,” said Pegues.

Pegues actively consults and works closely with various types of clients on matters related to the protection and enhancement of the economic value of their intellectual property. With an emphasis on patent litigation, he has also litigated cases involving copyrights, trademarks, trade dress and trade secrets. Pegues’ extensive litigation experience includes representing foreign and domestic clients in U.S. and foreign courts.

“I like being part of a growing firm with a nationally recognized reputation for its IP capabilities,” Wietjes said. “Dallas has a vibrant, expanding entrepreneurial community and I look forward to continue working with both start-ups and prominent IP owners to help them enforce and defend the unique aspects of their technologies.”

Polsinelli will relocate to Frost Tower in the summer of 2015 to accommodate firm growth. The office originally opened in 2011 with three attorneys and has increased to 36 attorneys. Polsinelli has committed to six floors (16-21) and 77,000 square feet with the penthouse on level 21. The private outside terrace features more than 1500 square feet that will provide spectacular, panoramic views of the Downtown and Uptown areas.

Attorneys in the Dallas office are recognized leaders in their areas of practice within the legal community for their achievements and dedication to client needs with honors in The Best Lawyers in America®, Texas Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in Dallas, Rising Stars, Outstanding Healthcare Transaction Lawyer, the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, the Bar Register for Preeminent Women Lawyers and the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Texas.
