Fluent in Mandarin, Lawrence has extensive experience in China-related matters. He is a member of the Hong Kong Law Society and has advised clients on a variety of banking, coporate, and commercial issues. Davis Polk & Wardwell just opened its third Asian office. The new Beijing site comes after offices in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Even before having an office in China, the New York-based firm has advised in some of the biggest deals in the country. Davis Polk & Wardwell has about 640 attorneys worldwide.

Soon after the announcement of the opening its new London office, Heller Ehrman recruited three corporate lawyers from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. Richard Eaton, Christopher Grew and Struan Penwarden will join the three Heller Ehrman partners already chosen to open the new office. The three Wilmer Cutler attorneys' practices deal with emerging companies and corporate technology. The firm will be recruiting associates and aims to have 25 lawyers in London by the end of '07. Already present in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Singapore, this office will be the firm's fourth outside the U.S.

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld will be the next to move into Beijing with plans to open a new office within the next 2-3 months. The firm plans to send two U.S.-based partners to head the office. Akin Gump employs over 900 lawyers in 15 offices worldwide.
