International Litigation Partner Juan Alcalá Joins Holland & Knight’s Austin Office

Holland & Knight has added international disputes attorney Juan Alcalá as a partner in its Austin, Texas, office. Mr. Alcalá was previously a partner with Gardere and served as co-chair of its international dispute resolution practice.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Juan to our firm. His focus on Latin America and experience with the energy and financial services industries match our strengths perfectly,” said John Hogan, the chair of Holland & Knight’s Litigation Section. “Juan has the necessary skills, client relationships and reputation to thrive in our firm and help us grow in Texas and Latin America.”

Mr. Alcalá focuses primarily in the areas of international litigation and arbitration, with a particular emphasis on disputes relating to Latin America and involving various industries, including energy, technology, construction, automotive, financial and pharmaceutical. These disputes have taken place in international tribunals, foreign courts, and state and federal courts in the United States.

“I welcome the opportunity to help build the Holland & Knight brand in Texas while offering my clients the resources of a major international firm,” said Mr. Alcalá. “Holland & Knight’s strong commitment to Latin America, including its presence in Mexico and Colombia, was a very attractive quality for me. I’m excited to put my experience in international litigation and arbitration to work for the firm and its clients.”

Mr. Alcalá is currently recognized by the IFLR 1000 guide as a leading lawyer in the areas of energy and infrastructure in Latin America. He serves on the advisory board for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Energy, Law & Business at the University of Texas and on various nonprofits that focus on supporting young Latinos in socio-economically disadvantaged circumstances.
