Ashurst Hires Partner in US

Ashurst has just made its first US lateral hire since it launched in the US last year. Attorney Margaret Sheehan joins the firm as a partner from Alston & Bird. Sheehan will practice in Ashurst’s financial services and products group. This is the first in what appears to be many desired lateral hires by Ashurst, who is currently focuses on expanding in Asia.

White & Case Loses ANOTHER PARTNER From Palo Alto

White & Case has lost yet another partner from its Palo Alto office: Jennifer L. Yokoyama. Yokoyama, who specializes in patent litigation, left the firm for Nike. She takes the position of Assistant General Counsel – IP Litigation. It would appear that White & Case must either close its Palo Alto office, after so many departures, or recruit and/or transfer partners to save it.

Lovells to Close Chicago Office After Merger

Six months after the Lovells/Hogan & Hartson merger, Lovells is to close its Chicago office. The office, consisting of seven partners, seems to have underperformed in the past few years. The firm is in the midst of discussing whether the Chicago partners will move to other offices.

Fish & Richardson = A Top Patent Firm

Fish & Richardson has made it to Intellectual Property Today “2010 Top Patent Firms” list. 356 law firms and individuals took part in the annual survey. Fish & Richardson issued 1,679 patents in 2009, an increase of 3.2 percent from the previous year. Patent work is one of the firm’s major practice areas.

Duane Morris: Increased Gross Revenue in 2009

Duane Morris had a (mostly) successful year in 2009. The firm’s gross revenue increased by 5.4 percent. Duane Morris’ revenue jumped from $368 million in 2008 to $387.7 million in 2009, which is even more than its 2007 number of $375 million. Profits per equity partner were also up in 2009. It increased by 3.6 percent from $727,000 to $753,000. Revenue per lawyer actually fell one percent last year totaling $633,000.
